Workflow Condition

Module name in Jira: (Project Charter) Project with specified value for property.

The condition hides a transition unless the project satisfies a rule built on one of its Project Charter properties. Users in projects that do not match never see the button.

Adding it

  1. Project settings → Workflows, edit the workflow, select the transition.

  2. Conditions → Add condition → (Project Charter) Project with specified value for property.

  3. Choose the project — a specific one, or Current Project for the project of the issue being transitioned.

  4. Choose the property, the operator and the value.

  5. Save and publish the workflow.

Condition or validator?

A condition removes the button, so the transition looks unavailable. A validator leaves the button in place and fails the transition with an explanation. Use a condition to keep an option out of reach, a validator when the user deserves to be told why.

The captures below were taken in 2023. The configuration fields are unchanged; Jira's own workflow screens have changed appearance since.
