Release Notes

This is the biggest update to External Data Sync since launch. Every screen has been redesigned, several long-standing problems are fixed, and the documentation has been rewritten. Your data sources, configurations, options and field values carry over unchanged: there is nothing to migrate.

• NEW One page with four tabs: Data sources, Fields, Configurations and Documentation. A badge in the header shows when the next hourly sync is due.

• NEW Data sources get a connection test with a response preview. The list shows each source's last test result and how many fields use it, and a source can only be saved once its test passes.

• NEW The Fields tab shows every supported field with its sync status, with search and filters.

• NEW The Configurations tab shows the status, time and reason of each configuration's last run, and counts failing configurations in the tab title.

• NEW The Documentation tab has a short guide and a JSONPath playground.

• NEW Four steps: field and context, data source, pick values, review and save.

• NEW Pick values by clicking the live response; the app writes the JSONPath or XPath for you and checks it on the spot.

• NEW The review step shows how many options will be added, kept and removed before the first run. Save and run now syncs straight away.

• NEW Add a data source without leaving the wizard.

• NEW Map each level by clicking the response, with a live preview of the tree. The app's Cascading Select (Beta) can be synced with up to five levels.

• NEW A new options editor for the Cascading Select, with rename in place, add child, delete with children, and a preview of the field on an issue.

• NEW A new edit dialog with one dropdown per level, on the issue view and the create screen.

• NEW Cascading levels from XML can use attribute values as labels, such as /item/@code.

• NEW The field configuration screen has a test panel: pick an issue, see the exact request with issue data filled in, click a value to fill the path, and see what the field will show. Save is blocked when the test returns a value the field can't show.

• NEW On the issue view, fields show where the value came from, Not set up yet with a link to the configuration, or Couldn't load with the reason and a Retry button.

• NEW Project picker with search and paging, a time estimate before you start, progress per project, a Stop button, and a count of skipped issues.

• BUGFIX JSONPath lists of positions or keys, such as $.items[0,1].name or $['id','name'], work everywhere a path runs: the configure wizard, syncs, the field configuration test, the issue view, the Bulk Calculator and the Documentation tab playground.

• BUGFIX Issue data placeholders such as {{issue.key}} work again after an Atlassian API change, and several placeholders can be combined in one URL or body.

• BUGFIX The Bulk Calculator saves values again.

• BUGFIX External Data fields no longer show as not configured on issues whose context is configured.

• BUGFIX XML data sources work again.

• BUGFIX XPath attribute filters such as book[@category='web']/title return the element text. Elements that contain other elements, or start with a comment, return their text instead of failing or coming back empty.

• BUGFIX Custom Header Auth sends the saved header, and configurations with a sub-path run correctly.

• BUGFIX The Cascading Select opens the app's editor on the issue view and the create screen.

• BUGFIX People who aren't Jira admins see the Cascading Select options in the edit dialog, and the dialog says when the options can't be loaded.

• BUGFIX Failed requests report the HTTP status and a readable reason, and unreachable addresses fail right away instead of waiting for the timeout.

• BUGFIX Select fields whose options depend on the issue show a clear message on the create screen instead of an error.
